There’s lots to read about the threat of AI to jobs. However, some positive spin-offs are now starting to emerge. Many commentators allude to AI being able to create new opportunities in the workplace, that are currently hard to imagine. Much like in previous technological breakthroughs – e.g. trains, cars, planes, internet, smart-phones etc - old jobs disappeared but hitherto unthought of jobs emerged. In the case of AI one area that is evolving fast is the use of LLM’s to retain the experience of employees in the firm. So, should they leave, their skills are not entirely lost. This can be vital for new employees who often complain about lack of leadership and guidance when they take up the job. LLMs will also increasingly be used to record meetings and presentations and then put them into context for all relevant employees, responding to questions on the content and even to questions about what was not covered or challenged in the meeting. We’re not just talking about minutes but about the structure, outcome and goals of a particular meeting, putting it in the context of the work of groups and the wider business. AI can further be used to rapidly summarise these summaries in turn so that employees don’t have to spend hours trying to find out what’s going on.
